The exhibition There, where we promenade brought together a body of work by four female artists: Etel Adnan, Susan Aldworth, Rachel Kneebone and Leonor Serrano Rivas. The exhibition was designed to explore the pedagogy of sleep as an active site for cataloguing memory. This publication includes texts, essays and interviews from the artists produced in collaboration with others such as Lotte Johnson, Simone Fattal, Richard Bright and Simeon Nelson, as well as an introductory essay by Catriona Whiteford (Freelands Artist Programme Curator, Freelands Foundation). The catalogue explores unconscious dream states and modes of knowledge negotiated through art, science and the imagination, and also reproduces an excerpt from Adnan’s poem Night (2016), which inspired the title of the exhibition.
