Programme

To mark our 10th anniversary, Freelands Foundation will host ROOM in our new space near Old Street.

ROOM is a one-day gathering dedicated to sharing resources, exchanging ideas and exploring the symbiotic relationship between making and teaching art. Bringing together artists, educators and art practitioners, ROOM will reflect on the key issues that have shaped art education over the past decade, while proposing ideas for the future.

Through open discussions and practical exchanges, the gathering will highlight diverse approaches to education; from alternative, sci-fi-inspired utopian visions to innovative local arts education programmes and provocations on the role of the studio as a site for learning.

Participants will be invited to reflect on their own experiences, examining how teaching and making art inform one another and evolve in response to shifting educational and cultural landscapes.

Presented through screenings, conversations, seminars and workshops, these discussions look to shape the next chapter of collaborative work taking place at the Foundation’s new home over the coming decade, and with organsiations across the UK.
