(b.1982, London, lives and works in Sheffield)
Working with sculpture, photography and printmaking, Kedisha Coakley reconsiders objects and cultural symbols, and reframes history, race, culture and conventions of curatorial practice. Her work inspires important and timely dialogues and encourages viewers to reconsider social-historical narratives. By exploring ideas of home, memory, class, status and cultural affiliations, she attempts to create inclusive and recognisable spaces – a familiar place of ownership and truth, transparency, opacity, belonging and hypervisibility for all.
Coakley studied her BA and MFA in Fine Art at Sheffield Hallam University. Recent shows include her solo exhibition Self-titled, Yorkshire Sculpture Park (2021) and group shows at Quench, Mar- gate (2021), New Contemporaries 21 at Firstsite, Colchester (2021), and New Contemporaries 21 at South London Gallery, London (2021).
